Hey everyone! This morning Avery and I went out flagging for the first time since our training. It was a beautiful (although hot) morning, and everything went according to plan. We made it to the Longfellow bridge before 9am! After the Longfellow bridge we sampled at the BU bridge, the Larz Anderson bridge, and the North Beacon Street bridge. Then we made it to the lab before 11, and didn't even get lost! A great way to start off the flagging program.
Tomorrow I will be going to the MassDEP office in Boston to continue looking up dock permits for the dock survey. This involves looking up permits in the database, locating them on a map, and then finding the actual permit in a series of binders or very old books. Some of these permits date back to the 1870s! Hopefully we will be able to match the permits to actual docks on the river, in order to see if there are docks that are lacking an up to date permit.
