This morning we attempted to kill two birds with one stone as Avery, Kyra, and I set off to investigate 3 more docks further down the Charles for CRWA's ongoing dock survey, while we were out collecting water samples for the flagging program. It worked out pretty well overall, although all the waves and headwind near the Longfellow bridge managed to get us pretty wet on the way back.
Meanwhile, I'm continuing to help Nigel, our senior engineer, in assembling a working Access database to hold 23 years of withdrawal data previously logged in Excel. We've been attempting to keep track of the monthly volumes of water purchased, sold, and withdrawn from ground and surface water sources in various towns across Massachusetts, since 1988. This water withdrawal data is used in various CRWA models, and allows us to keep track of usage levels in the watershed. Now that all the data has been successfully imported to the new database, we've moved on to constructing various queries to provide us with more detailed information, such as summary data for annual source withdrawals, or data for the combined withdrawals in systems of multiple sources. I'm looking forward to all the applications we can use this database for once it's completely finished.
